Morning would come early for both of us, so Tucker and I had decided to call it a night well before ten. But of course my night-owl sister had different plans for me when she got home from her date. I was already in my pajamas when she burst into my room, swooning.
Leaning back against my door as if she couldn’t hold herself upright, she gushed, “My date with Finn was a-maz-ing.”
I smiled. It overjoyed me to see my sister so happy. Patting the bed, I said, “Well, come in and tell me all about it.”
Delilah practically floated to the bed and sat down beside me. “The restaurant was incredible. You’ll have to try it. The food was phenomenal. They had a band playing, and we danced…” She got a far-off look in her eyes as if she was replaying the evening in her mind. “He’s a great dancer, by the way. Then when we left there, we went down to River Street and walked along the river, holding hands.” She sighed. “It was magical.”
“Does that mean you’re seeing him again?”
She grinned from ear to ear. “Tomorrow night.”
“Good for you.”
“Good for us, actually. I was able to get a lot out of him about Magnolia’s friends and family.”
I slapped my forehead. “Please tell me you didn’t use your first date with Finn to pump him for information about this case.”
“I told you I’d be discreet about it, and I was. He was interested in the case and offered a bunch of information freely.”
“Like what?”
Her eyes grew wide. “Crazy stuff. Get this—Finn said Magnolia and her husband, Duke, have an open relationship.”
My jaw dropped. “You can’t be serious.”
“As a heart attack. But it’s not a well-known thing, so don’t blab it around town.”
“Wow. I didn’t expect that. So does this mean Lucille was right about Magnolia being overly chummy with her husband, Sloane?”
Nodding, she replied, “Yes, and that’s where it gets a little sticky. Lucille and Sloane don’t have a similar arrangement. It’s no skin off Duke’s nose if Magnolia and Sloane are hooking up, but Lucille would blow a gasket over it.”
“A murderous gasket?”
“Maybe.” She frowned. “I know I was the one who originally said Lucille seemed like a decent suspect, but…”
I had seen this one coming a mile away. “But now that you’re dating her nephew, you don’t want her to be on our list anymore.”
She hung her head. “Guilty.” Huffing out a breath, she added, “Tucker called it, and of course I had to run my mouth about pulling her off the list without cause.”
“I’m sure he won’t rub it in your face…too much.”
Frowning, she said, “Regardless of my feelings, I’m not pulling her off the list. I still think we should investigate her.”
I patted her hand. “We’ll just be super discreet about it. I don’t suppose you talked to him about his uncle Sloane, too?”
“I did. Not a lot of info there. Sloane is all about business, and I don’t think he spends much time with the family.
